Sweet Surprises

One of the highlights of our day is visiting Sandy's blog to see what she is styling next. But when we are greeted with a dress or top from gracie b. our hearts do a little happy dance! These are two lovely pics we've found on her site in the last few weeks. Her style is, as always, impeccable and we love her that much for it!

We Have So Much to Smile About

We love a good surprise, so imagine our excitement when we heard that Liz of So Much to Smile About was featuring our Over the Moon Dress on her blog! We love her navy, yellow, tan combo - doesn't she look amazing?! Sadly we're almost sold out of this adorable frock, but if you hurry over to the shop you could snag the last one!

Fabulous Flats

Give your heels a break and check out these fabulous flats!

Nothing spruces up an outfit better than a fabulous pair of flats and with so many great styles to choose from, it's easy to find a pair  (or two or three) that's great for work, school, running errands around town, or even for a night out on the town.

What I love most about each of these shoes is they are versatile and most are priced just right and won't break the bank. Just for fun, I thew in a few little splurges for those of you with some extra money to spend.

Shoes are always a great investment and when you buy quality and take good care of them, they will last you for many years to come!

I hope you love these FABULOUS flats as much as I do! Happy shopping ladies!

Lessons Learned from the 2013 Oscars

We’ve already covered the best and worst dressed at the 2013 Oscars. [if you missed it check out my official review here.] Each year we can learn all about style and what to wear, what not to wear and what seams are not flattering. [I’m looking at you Anne Hathaway...]

Unless you’re living under a rock, do not have power [thanks snowstorms] or have given up t.v. or the internet for lent, you've heard about the infamous Jennifer Lawrence graceful fall. Even if you don’t have any of these things I know you've heard about this fall.

If it were me who fell up the stairs while accepting an Oscar, I probably would have avoided the press conference all together or I would have been crying. Something.

Not Jennifer. Not even close. She took the fall with such grace... though I too would fall if Huge Jackman & Ben Affleck would rush to pick me up.

Jennifer looked fabulous in her dress. Though, I was a cynic at first I've come around. But seriously, that dress is huge, how do you expect not to fall up the stairs?

My favorite question from her press conference was “Was that a fall? What happened?”

Jennifer’s response? “What do you mean what happened? Look at my dress. I tried to walk upstairs in this dress. That's what happened. I don't actually -- yes, I think I just stepped on a fabric and they waxed the stairs.”

On top of this she was also heard saying “yes I took a few shots before I went up there” and admitting that she was starving on the red carpet. What other 22 year-old on the red carpet would be so blunt and real about all of that? I’m not sure, but I’m diggin’ it.

So, what can we glean from all of this?

Aside from the need for extreme carefulness when wearing haute couture and walking up stairs..

Just roll with the punches. We might fall flat on our face when we are looking our best, or at a huge defining moment in our careers or lives, similar to accepting an Oscar. But how you react to an unplanned and possibly terrifying and embarrassing moment is what defines you.

When you fall flat on your face, you've got to be able to pull yourself together, learn from your mistakes [for Jennifer it might include not eating before the Oscars and wearing a huge ball gown] and laugh a little. Because in the words of my grandmother, “if that’s the worst thing to happen to you...”

Guess you’re pretty lucky to have the opportunity to fail or embarrass yourself. Plus, most times when we non-celebs fall, it’s not broadcast world-wide.

And if you haven’t watched her press conference you’ll want to do that now. [find it here]

cheers,
b

Top Drugstore Beauty Products

Picking up last minute beauty products when on-the-go or on vacation is a lot easier with these top drug store beauty products!

I don't know if this has ever happened to you, but a few years ago I was caught off guard when trying to get through airport security. I didn't know at the time that I couldn't have certain beauty products in my carry-on baggage (I learned that lesson the hard way) and ended up having ALL of my beauty products confiscated. I'm ashamed to say that I did actually cry a little bit. But the good news is, I was able to pick up amazing beauty products at a local drug store and was pleasantly surprised to discover that many of these products were just as good and cheaper than most the expensive name brand items I used.

Years later, I actually still prefer many of these products over ones found in major retailers like Sephora. The savings add up. You don't have to spend a ton of money on beauty products to get amazing results.

With that said, I hope you never have all your beauty products confiscated by TSA, but if you do, just head over to your local drug store and look for these items to get you through.

I hope you love these drug store finds as much as I do!

Tree Dance

Having been a dancer all of my life, I am influenced by the silhouette of the body and how it influences the way we move, what clothes we choose to wear, and how we express ourselves. Are our shoulders back? Is our head up? Are we striding and gliding? Thinking about this inspired me to create the drawing above, wanting it to be fluid and look as though it were dancing. I love trees because they have arms dipping into all sorts of things. People are the same. We have many interests, many experiences. And our branches are long because we want to share them and reach people.

Similar to how we express ourselves when we decorate our bodies with clothes and jewelry--what do we want to say? How does your silhouette and body influence what you choose to wear, and how you want to move?
